Want to remotely control a mac across the internet without messing about with routers?

http://www.gotomypc.com/

I have tried ever other available option – There are plenty of free options for a PC, crossloop, Netmeeting, etc – but absolutely nothing comes close to GoToMyPc. Take my word for it. $15 per month to stop an important client throwing his macbook out the window.

iChat screen sharing has never worked for me, Crossloop for mac is far too slow, and BOMGAR wanted about $5000 for their ‘service’.

GoToMyPc is worth it’s weight in gold, just forget about the crappy TV ads with pidgeons.

Why and what is MiFi? Do I want one?

MIFI. (not MFI as someone once said to me) – They are basically a 3G usb dongle/datacard with a built in wireless router and a 4 hour battery (charged via normal USB)- You attach up to 5 devices to it wirelessly, all of them getting their internet from the 3G network. Really useful until you use them on a train – They simply do not have the same 3G signal pickup as a standard 3G usb dongle, rendering them pretty much useless on the move. I suspect there is some interference between the wireless signal and the 3G signal making the overall reception about 50% of normal.

My model was the Three Huawei e5830 – Wait for the new 585.

Can you guess what speed your hard disk runs at?

75mph. That’s right. Faster than the UK speed limit on a motorway. All Day. Every day. Upon switching on it gets to 75mph in about 3 seconds. Eventually, that hard drive may break. Try to imagine what you would lose.

External, small USB powered hard drives now retail at £60 for 500GB. Can you honestly afford not to get one?
